The Details
The Vancouver Island photo contest has begun!
When: from Monday, April 29 – Sunday, June 2, 2019
Each week we will announce a theme. You will then send us your best Vancouver Island photo that relates to the week’s topic or theme.
Only one photo per person per topic is allowed, so choose wisely!
Five different themes will be announced, so you will have 5 chances to win the grand prize (each photo submitted gives you an entry).
Who Can Enter?
Any amateur photographer! (Sorry, no professional photographers allowed…it has to be fair for the rest of us)

- Old
- Locals
- Past Locals
- Visiting tourist to Vancouver Island
- Past tourist to Vancouver Island
If you have beautiful photos of Vancouver Island you can enter!
The Photos
The photos sent in MUST be of Vancouver Island. They do not, however, have to be current or taken during the photo contest.
If you have archived photos of Vancouver Island on your camera drive from way back in 2010, and it works with the theme of the week, send it in! As long as the photo relates to the topic of the week and you feel it’s a great photo of Vancouver Island, then it’s valid.
The Fine Print
Submitting photos to the Vancouver Island Photo Contest permits Vancouver Island View to use the submitted photos in future articles and/or social media posts. With that being said, Vancouver Island View will NOT take credit for the photos. If one of your photos is used in a future article or social media post, credit will always be given to the original photographer (you!).
The Grand Prize
At the end of the 5 weeks, a group of judges will look over all the submitted photos and choose ONE final winner.
The winner will receive:
- A $150 gift certificate to BC Ferries
- A $50 cash prize!

Voting
After each week’s theme is complete, a panel of four judges narrows down the selection to the top 10 -15 photos. The photos are then placed on a separate voting page.
We ask that readers vote for their favourite photo of the week on that page.
The photo with the most votes overall (regardless of theme) will win the contest at the end of the five weeks.

How To Enter the Contest
Use the contact form below to submit your photo.
This will be the only valid way to enter the contest (please don’t tag us on Instagram or Facebook with a photo…it will NOT count!).
The new topic/theme of the week will be announced here every Monday. It will be published in this article under, “Theme of the Week”, as well as announced frequently on Facebook and Instagram. (If you aren’t following us there yet, you might want to do so now).
Once a new theme has been announced you can submit a photo that relates to that theme.
Please follow the topics/themes and dates presented below. For instance, do not submit a photo for the week one topic during week three. This is because all photos are tallied at the end of each week and a top 10 has already been determined for that particular theme/topic (so your photo won’t count towards the end results anyway).
The Rules
- Only one photo per person per topic is allowed
- You must use a valid email address to enter (otherwise we can’t contact you should you win!)
- Photos MUST be of Vancouver Island
- You must submit your photos using the form below. (Sorry, tagging us in a photo on Instagram or Facebook won’t work).
- You must follow the topics/themes and dates presented below. For instance, please do not submit a photo for the week one topic/theme during week three. (Your photo will not be counted).
