A Menu That Surprises and Delights
As frequent visitors, my husband and I have made Nanoose Bay Cafe our go-to spot for special occasions. Recently, we were treated to an extraordinary Chef’s Tasting Menu that showcased the restaurant’s culinary creativity and commitment to high-quality ingredients.
Our evening began with an assortment of appetizers that took us by surprise in the best way possible. We started with Pork Belly & Brussels Sprouts and a Bean Curd Salad—two dishes that we might not have chosen on our own, but that turned out to be absolute standouts. The bean curd salad, in particular, was a revelation. As someone who typically doesn’t gravitate toward beans, I savoured every bite of this fresh and flavourful dish.
The main courses continued to impress. We were served the Surf & Surf, a perfectly balanced dish featuring sesame-crusted albacore tuna, sautéed tiger prawns, broccolini, and warm potato salad. Each element was cooked to perfection, highlighting the seafood's natural flavours while adding complementary textures.
Another highlight was the Braised Beef, an eight-hour braised beef short rib paired with baby shrimp, mixed vegetable fried rice, and a crispy taro nest. The rich, melt-in-your-mouth beef was elevated by the delicate shrimp and crispy taro, creating a comforting and sophisticated dish.
Ending on a Sweet Note
As we reached dessert, we were in for yet another surprise. We indulged in the Ube Cheesecake and the Yuzu Bar. Two desserts that beautifully balance indulgence and freshness.
The ube cheesecake was a delight, proving that this purple yam could be transformed into something truly luxurious. Meanwhile, the yuzu bar offered a bright, refreshing contrast, with its citrusy zing leaving a perfect final impression.
A Note About our Tasting Menu
As mentioned, we were treated to a unique offering. While the food items mentioned above were indeed on the menu during our dining experience, menus can often change with the season and/or be chef-dependent.
Looking at the current menu, the only items still available from our tasting menu are the Surf & Surf and the Ube Cheesecake.
However, don't despair! We have been back several times since the above dining experience, and have enjoyed the new menu offerings just as much. (The handmade Gnocchi is delicious).

Our waiter’s attention to detail was truly refreshing. He took the time to introduce each dish, explaining the ingredients and preparation, adding to the overall enjoyment of our meal.
